Amy Goodman: "We need an independent media"
In 1997 the late George Gerbner, former dean of the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School of Communication, described the media as being "driven not by the creative people who have something to tell, but by global conglomerates that have something to sell." And almost ten years later, it still rings true. We need an independent media. Democracy Now!

I'm afraid that this is Amy Goodman poking the mainstream media where it hurts, while continuing to hide from 9/11.
What is striking is the near total absense of remark regarding the lies surrounding 9/11.
Also, she reported the administration line about al Zarqawi's death unquestioned. I believe there is an enormous underlying story, and they are all linked to 9/11 through the administration.
While Amy does some great work, I think this is a bit of grandstanding and self-aggrandisement where really she has her corporate limits also.
I would like to see true no-holds-barred journalism, and on safe topics, you can count on that from Democracy Now, but some of the reporting is just as lying through ommission as is any FOX or CNN broadcast.
Shouldn't we get the NSA to ferret out those anonymous sources that attested to the WMD's and test tubes in Iraq, fooling the administration into waging a war based upon false pretenses, and prosecute them?
"While Amy does some great work, I think this is a bit of grandstanding and self-aggrandisement where really she has her corporate limits also."
The points about WMD and Iraq are in an entirely different realm than 9/ll, as the distortions from Bush etc regarding Iraq have been exposed on a worldwide stage. Whatever questions there are regarding 9/11 have a much more speculative basis, and including them in this article (assuming Amy deems them worthy of mention) would put her greater concern for this article (with a far greater number of lives involved) in a similar speculative context. Lies surrounding 9/11 may be worth writing about and exposing to a larger audience, but not 'kitchen-sinked' into this article. It took long enough for the mainstream audience to doubt the Bush WMD line - give 'em time (and hopefully, conclusive proof) before piling on 9/11.
Since questions about the events of 9/11 have become a topic of discussion in the blog entries received thus far in response to this Nation article, I have listed several websites, below, which iNoodle.com readers can link to for additional information from groups which are questioning the official narrative:
