Ten Reasons to Impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney

Introduction by Sean:

I just signed this petition. The personal statement I included therein is appended as a comment to this blog post.

***

I ask Congress to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney for the following reasons:

1. Violating the United Nations Charter by launching an illegal "War of Aggression" against Iraq without cause, using fraud to sell the war to Congress and the public, misusing government funds to begin bombing without Congressional authorization, and subjecting our military personnel to unnecessary harm, debilitating injuries, and deaths.

2. Violating U.S. and international law by authorizing the torture of thousands of captives, resulting in dozens of deaths, and keeping prisoners hidden from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

3. Violating the Constitution by arbitrarily detaining Americans, legal residents, and non-Americans, without due process, without charge, and without access to counsel.

4. Violating the Geneva Conventions by targeting civilians, journalists, hospitals, and ambulances, and using illegal weapons, including white phosphorous, depleted uranium, and a new type of napalm.

5. Violating U.S. law and the Constitution through widespread wiretapping of the phone calls and emails of Americans without a warrant.

6. Violating the Constitution by using "signing statements" to defy hundreds of laws passed by Congress.

7. Violating U.S. and state law by obstructing honest elections in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006.

8. Violating U.S. law by using paid propaganda and disinformation, selectively and misleadingly leaking classified information, and exposing the identity of a covert CIA operative working on sensitive WMD proliferation for political retribution.

9. Subverting the Constitution and abusing Presidential power by asserting a "Unitary Executive Theory" giving unlimited powers to the President, by obstructing efforts by Congress and the Courts to review and restrict Presidential actions, and by promoting and signing legislation negating the Bill of Rights and the Writ of Habeas Corpus.

10. Gross negligence in failing to assist New Orleans residents after Hurricane Katrina, in ignoring urgent warnings of an Al Qaeda attack prior to Sept. 11, 2001, and in increasing air pollution causing global warming.

I am a US citizen presently living in the UK with my British wife and our fifteen-year-old Anglo-American daughter (born in Denton, Texas; where I graduated from the University of North Texas).

There is no question as to whether to impeach.

The Bush-Cheney administration are indisputably guilty of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and breaching their respective oaths of office to uphold the US Constitution.

I have observed from both sides of the Atlantic the tragic fall in the reputation of the US, and the UK for its willingness to commit countless crimes alongside its special-relationship ally.

I am concerned that Americans, and Britons, shall continue to experience the consequences of these crimes for decades to come.

Congress has likewise participated in these crimes. This, no doubt, is where the reticence to impeach stems.

If the United States is to have a shred of a chance to salvage its standing within the international community -- and amongst tens of millions of Americans at home -- then Congress MUST act to uphold the rule of law and impeach this criminal administration.

Furthermore, a comprehensive audit must be carried out to assess the myriad ways in which the Constitution has been usurped, and to act immediately to undo the web of indescribably dangerous legislation which has been made law under the Bush-Cheney administration.

Each and every representative and senator in Congress has the duty to ensure that these actions are taken with the greatest expediency. Political expediency -- which got us into this mess and which is responsible for hundreds of thousands of human deaths thus far -- is no excuse for committing the gravest of crimes, nor for sweeping such crimes under the carpet in a cynical attempt to "move forward".

Every right-thinking person in the world knows of these crimes, and therefore any attempt to wave them away will only deepen the resolve of the international community to act to right these wrongs.

Prove to the world that you, the United States Congress, has not fallen prey to the supreme arrogance, ignorance, of empires past.

I eagerly await your actions, and hope that they are in support of the Constitution, international law, and the world community.

Yours sincerely,

Sean M. Madden

Thank you. This is articulate and very compelling. It is the job of Congress to seek justice for crimes already committed, but more than that, Bush's crimes will be a stone around their necks in terms of getting anything else done. I think most importantly, we must expect Bush to continue to break the law and do us all harm unless and until he is removed from office. The future of our country is at stake.

Well said Sean and thank you for your continued efforts to wake us all from sleepwalking into a dark and blighted future. We all need to try to make the world a more just, humane and enlightened habitat for future generations. Maybe it's not too late.

My good friend, The Unknown Candidate, recently published an excellent post which includes Lewis Lapham's (former editor of Harper's Magazine) reasoning in support of impeachment. Do read.

And, happy holidays to all ...

Sean,

You are living in the UK, terror central, you are not in the USA, there fore, please do not meddle in our affairs. I too lived in the UK, a horrible third world country that it is allowing home grown terrorism, promotes Islam, which is taking advantage of British good will.

If I look at what you are proposing and the agenda of Osama Bin Laden, they are almost identical, therefore the issue of Bush is mute, but your agenda is clear. You support and are willing to harbor terrorism, in the name of socialism.

Do us a favor, impeach the queen, and take a look at yourself, how dare you put up such a website......you are less than despicable.

I am ashamed that you claim you are an American.

Impeach him on what? Your grounds are baseless, instead, focus on the real issue.

the solution is simple and clear:

What was good for Japan, will be good for Islam. It will force us to remove our troops, clean the problem, and make the world safer in less than 1 hour. If we bomb them back to the stone age, we are only setting them back 5 years. To let them continue to grow would be like letting cancer spreading in your body. Killing innocent people is fine with them, so we would nto be doing anything that violates their beliefs.

Focus on the real issue sir, the USA has the right to defend herself. Drastic situations require drastic measures. Look at your history and you will see that presidents in the past committed far more violations of the constitution than Bush, Roosevelt committed no less than 104 violations, yet no one said a word.

Is Bush committing violations, doubt it? We are not beheading people, we do not fly airplanes into buildings with innocent people, we do not bomb rail and transit. Instead we defend ourselves, and some how you are confused about it.

If you think they are not a real threat, read your history, read the Koran, and go live there. 49 out of the 50 poorest countries in the world are Moslem, ummm, I wonder how that happened.

Do not impeach Bush, instead, wake up and defend yourself. Utopia does not exist for an enemy that only knows bloodshed and violence.

Why are you not condemning the horrors of Islam. Amazing how you missed that.

So again, my conclusion is this. You are for the Islamic terror movement, and you should be treated as a traitor to not only the USA, but to Europe.

I have lived with these filthy people, and I can tell you they do not like even you. They will use you, but they don't like you, hate likes no one sir.

Please wake up and take a look at the real issues.

Sal Militello

A proud American, not a British a subject to Terror.
